The Korg 01/W (O1/W) was a popular synthesizer workstations which followed on the heels of the M1's success. But the 01/W and its family members have better sounds, as evidenced by the patches on this cd. As many folks have moved on to other, newer keyboards, rackmounts, and virtual synths, now is a great time to get great professional vintage gear for a lot less money. So where are the cool sounds?

I have compiled over 100 PCG files containing over 1,500 patches and combinations for these synths. I have also located some freeware software which may help you organize all these sounds into banks that are useful to you. As an added bonus, I've transferred all the patches into a huge Emagic SoundDiver library which works on Mac & PC that will makes it quite easy for finding just the right sound. Included on the disc are manuals for the X3, X5DR, and N5.

I have also been informed that the X-series patches and combinations can be loaded into Korg's N-series synths: the N1, N1R, N264, N265, N364, NS5R, N5 and N5EX. And they may even work in the X5, X5D, and X5DR. That's great news if you are looking to expand your palette of sounds without having to buy a new synth. I've even added sounds and software specifically for older Korg models like the O1W and its brethren.

All files shipped to you on CD-ROM that is compatible with both Macintosh & Windows PCs. This would make a wonderful addition to anyone who owns any of these synthesizers. There are separate folders for 01, N, and X series synths, and some of these files may work across models. However, no conversion programs are included. Breathe more life into your vintage Korg by using the files on this cd!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions - taken from real emails I have received):
Q) How do I get the sounds on this disc onto my synthesizer? My keyboard does not have a CD-ROM drive.
A)In most cases you'll need a MIDI interface. I prefer the M-Audio Midisport Uno ($35). There's software on here for transferring the sounds that are in System Exclusive (SysEx) format. For those of you with models that have a floppy disk drive, you can just copy the .PCG files to a floppy -- but you'll need to use the older-style DS/DD diskettes, not the DS/HD floppies that are more currently found. If you can't find DS/DD on ebay, either check Google or carefully place a piece of scotch tape over the HD hole (not the lock/unlock hole), then reformat this floppy in your keyboard's disk drive.

Q) Do I get a free synthesizer along with this cd?
A) NO! This is just a CD with program data for this model synthesizer. But since most people buy a new synth to get new sounds, you can pump more life into your vintage gear by purchasing the collection of sound data that is available on this cd.

Q) How do I get these sounds into my (other make) synthesizer?
A) It cannot be done! This program data will only work for the models specified above. Think of a synth as a computer -- it will only run the programs that are made for it.

Q) You just grabbed this stuff from the internet. I could do that!
A) Go ahead and try -- but be prepared to spend hundreds of hours tracking down this stuff. Many of the pdf's are files that I made myself at a cost of time and money to buy photocopied manuals and such. And I've tossed out a bunch of Sysex files that did not work. Plus, I've got a vast array of software tools that helped in the development of this cd. Save yourself the time and money, and just buy my disc already. It's under $20!

Q) Do you have demos that we can hear?
A) There are no demo audio files yet, but I plan to make a series of sample cd's based on some of the sounds contained from this data. Check back here this spring to hear the results!

Q) How do I get this to work on my computer?
A) I'm working on generating some documentation for all synth models and for Mac and PC, but I haven't completed this yet. Any changes I make may be downloaded from my website.

Q) Your disc Rocks! I spent hundreds of dollars on commercial patches that aren't as good.
